PONTOON
CARPET INSTALLATION
(The easy way)
If you are re-decking:
Make sure you are using the proper plywood-New CCA treated
marine plywood and proper stainless steel bolts and xylan
screws to prevent rust.
If you are not re-decking:
Follow the instructions below.
- Remove old carpet.
- Make sure your deck is clean and there is no damage to
the carpet as you roll it onto the deck.
- Before you apply the glue, fold the carpet in half, running
the length of the pontoon so that you will have about a
four foot wide by length of your pontoon to begin with.
- Instead of troweling with messy glue, simply pour the
glue on the deck and roll on with any paint roller. (Approximately
80 sq. ft. to the gallon)
- Once you have rolled the glue over the exposed deck, press
the carpet down over the glue, repeating the same process
on the other side.
- Now use a heavy pipe or roller to press the carpet so
the glue adheres and has a proper bond.
- The carpet should then be covered for 24 hours as the
glue is a water-based product and weather can have an adverse
effect on the adhesion if not covered.
- Allow 24 hours for proper bond.
Job well done!
